Addiction Treatment: A Path to Recovery and Renewal

At Lion Heart Behavioral Health, we provide evidence-based behavioral health programs in Massachusetts for adults seeking treatment for substance use disorders. From our Raynham location, we help individuals throughout Bristol County build a strong foundation for recovery through personalized care, compassionate clinical support, and a full continuum of outpatient treatment.

Our team creates individualized treatment plans that address the physical, emotional, and behavioral aspects of addiction using proven therapeutic approaches and structured levels of care. Whether you’re seeking help for alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, stimulants, or another substance, we’ll help you determine the right treatment program for your needs. You can also verify your insurance online before beginning the admissions process.

Understanding Addiction: Breaking the Cycle, Embracing Recovery

Addiction is a treatable medical condition that affects the brain, behavior, and overall health. While every person’s experience is different, recovery is possible with the right combination of clinical care, evidence-based therapies, and ongoing support. At Lion Heart Behavioral Health, we help individuals address not only substance use itself but also the underlying factors that contribute to addiction, including mental health concerns, trauma, chronic stress, and unhealthy patterns of coping.

Treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment to understand your history, current symptoms, recovery goals, and support system. From there, our team develops an individualized treatment plan that may include individual therapy, group therapy, relapse prevention, life-skills development, and treatment for co-occurring mental health conditions. As your needs change, your level of care can change with you, providing the right amount of support at every stage of recovery.

Addiction also affects families, relationships, and the people who care about you most. Recovery often involves rebuilding trust, improving communication, and creating healthier routines that support long-term success. You can learn more about how addiction affects the whole family and why recovery often involves more than one person.

How to Choose the Right Level of Care

Choosing the right level of care is one of the most important decisions you’ll make during the recovery process. At Lion Heart Behavioral Health, every client begins with a comprehensive assessment so our clinical team can recommend the program that best matches your symptoms, treatment goals, medical history, and support needs. As you make progress, your level of care can also change, ensuring you continue receiving the right amount of support throughout recovery.

Partial hospitalization program (PHP)

A partial hospitalization program provides the highest level of outpatient care for individuals who need intensive daily clinical support without overnight treatment. PHP is often recommended for those stepping down from inpatient care or those whose symptoms require a more structured therapeutic environment.

Intensive outpatient program (IOP)

An intensive outpatient program offers structured treatment several days each week while allowing clients to continue working, attending school, or meeting family responsibilities. IOP combines individual therapy, group therapy, relapse prevention, and skill-building to support long-term recovery.

Outpatient program (OP)

An outpatient program is designed for individuals who have achieved greater stability but still benefit from ongoing clinical support. Outpatient care helps clients continue building healthy routines, strengthen relapse prevention skills, and maintain progress as they transition into everyday life.

Every recovery journey is unique. Our team will help determine the most appropriate level of care based on your individual needs and adjust your treatment plan as your recovery progresses.

Addictions We Treat: Comprehensive Care for Lasting Recovery

Every substance affects the brain and body differently, which is why effective addiction treatment begins with an accurate diagnosis and an individualized treatment plan. • Cocaine addiction: Cocaine addiction can disrupt every aspect of your life, from relationships to physical health. Our program focuses on helping individuals break the cycle of addiction with a combination of counseling and support strategies.

No matter which substance is involved, our clinical team provides compassionate, individualized care designed to help you build lasting recovery through evidence-based treatment and ongoing support.

Signs and Symptoms of Addiction

Addiction can affect every aspect of a person’s physical health, emotional well-being, relationships, and daily functioning. While the signs vary from person to person, some of the most common indicators of a substance use disorder include:

  • Changes in behavior: Individuals may exhibit mood swings, irritability, or loss of interest in activities they once enjoyed. Social withdrawal or a shift in personal relationships can also be indicators.
  • Neglecting responsibilities: Addiction often leads to neglecting work, school, or family obligations. Individuals may begin to prioritize substance use over important life commitments.
  • Physical changes: Unexplained weight loss, poor hygiene, or changes in appearance can be signs of addiction. Frequent illness or sleep disturbances may also occur.
  • Increased tolerance: Over time, individuals may need larger amounts of the substance to achieve the desired effect. This is a clear indicator of tolerance and dependency.
  • Risky behavior: Engaging in dangerous activities, such as driving under the influence or mixing substances, may occur as addiction escalates.
  • Cravings and withdrawal symptoms: A strong desire to use the substance, along with physical symptoms like sweating, shaking, nausea, or anxiety when not using, can be signs of physical dependence.
  • Inability to cut back: Despite attempts to quit or reduce use, individuals often find themselves unable to stop using the substance.

If these signs sound familiar, seeking a professional assessment can help determine whether addiction treatment is appropriate. Early intervention can improve outcomes and provide the support needed to begin recovery.

Therapeutic Approaches for Addiction Treatment

At Lion Heart Behavioral Health, we offer a range of evidence-based therapy programs designed to support individuals in their journey to recovery. Our therapeutic approaches help address the underlying emotional and psychological factors of addiction, providing clients with the tools they need to heal and rebuild their lives. Our therapy options include:

  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): DBT is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy that focuses on helping individuals manage intense emotions and improve interpersonal relationships. It teaches coping strategies to handle stress, reduce impulsive behavior, and build emotional resilience, which are crucial for maintaining long-term recovery.
  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR): EMDR is a powerful therapy used to help individuals process traumatic memories and reduce the emotional charge attached to them. By using bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps clients reframe negative beliefs and experiences, making it an effective tool for those whose addiction is rooted in past trauma.
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): CBT is a widely-used and highly effective treatment for addiction. This therapy focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to substance use. Through CBT, individuals learn to develop healthier thinking habits, improve decision-making, and enhance their problem-solving skills to support long-term recovery.

These evidence-based therapies are integrated into each client’s individualized treatment plan, helping address both substance use and the emotional or psychological factors that support long-term recovery.

Our goal is to make high-quality addiction care as accessible and transparent as possible.

Nicole Hunter serves as Program Director with a leadership style rooted in authenticity, compassion, and lived experience. She has been in recovery from substance use for several years, and while recovery is the foundation of the life she has built, it is far more than something in her past—it continues to shape who she is, how she leads, and why she is so deeply passionate about helping others find their own path forward.

Nicole remembers what it felt like to walk into treatment, unsure of what life could look like on the other side. She also understands that recovery isn’t something we simply “graduate” from. Even years later, there are seasons when we need to reconnect with the tools, principles, and support that keep us grounded. Having experienced her own mental health challenges alongside recovery, she understands that healing is rarely one-dimensional. This perspective allows her to genuinely relate to individuals navigating both substance use and mental health, meeting them with empathy instead of judgment and hope instead of shame.

For Nicole, this work has never been just a career—it is deeply personal. Her passion comes from walking alongside people who are making one of the hardest and bravest decisions of their lives: choosing to rebuild. She believes there is something incredibly powerful about witnessing someone begin to believe in themselves again, often before they are able to see their own potential. Being trusted to share in that journey is something she never takes for granted.

Nicole believes every person deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued—not for who they might become someday, but for who they are the moment they walk through the door. No two clients are the same, and she is committed to ensuring treatment reflects the unique strengths, challenges, goals, and experiences of each individual. She believes healing happens through individualized care, genuine connection, and creating an environment where people feel safe enough to be honest and supported enough to grow.

Nicole’s clinical philosophy combines evidence-based practices with the belief that the therapeutic relationship itself is one of the most powerful tools for change. Throughout her years working in behavioral health across a variety of clinical and leadership roles, she has developed a flexible, person-centered approach that meets individuals where they are while empowering them to discover where they are capable of going. She celebrates every step forward, knowing that meaningful progress is often made through small, consistent victories rather than dramatic breakthroughs.

Whether she is supporting clients or leading the multidisciplinary team at the program, Nicole lives by the principle of unconditional positive regard. She believes people grow when they feel respected, challenged, supported, and genuinely believed in. She strives to create a culture where clients and staff alike feel empowered to learn, take healthy risks, and recognize their own strengths.

Above all, Nicole believes that recovery is possible, healing is possible, and that every person deserves individualized care, unwavering respect, and the opportunity to build a life they are proud of. Her goal is simple: to help create a space where people feel safe enough to be honest, supported enough to grow, and empowered enough to realize that lasting change is within reach.
